Recipe for Healing

Christine LaPosa • June 25, 2024

It’s time to take action!

it’s time to take action to heal trauma.

Greetings, friends! Thank you for returning!

The objective for today’s blog entry is to provide a “Recipe for Healing from Trauma”.

Before I begin, please know that, when it comes to trauma, there is no “one size fits all” solution

for healing.

Instead, the purpose of this entry is to suggest a basic list of “ingredients” (components) and

simple, general “instructions” (guidelines) to support the healing process.

"Recipe for Healing from Trauma”

Ingredients:

Safe environment

  • Community
  • Acceptance
  • Willingness to seek help
  • Tools for change
  • Consistent commitment to taking action
  • Ongoing evaluation of progress

Instructions:

Take necessary actions to eliminate (or decrease within reason) people, places, and things in

your environment that threaten your safety.

Identify your preferred support persons (a mix of professional and personal supports is best).

Create a list of the ways in which you have been impacted by trauma (this can be a single

experience occurring one time, a single ongoing experience, or multiple different experiences).

Ask your support persons for help with addressing those areas in your life that are impacted by

trauma (certain support persons may be better equipped to support in certain areas).

Identify and access resources in your community (including physical resources in your

geographic area, written resources, electronic resources, and more).

Create an action plan with clear and measurable goals, objectives, and timelines; identify a

support person to help hold you accountable for achieving outcomes within deadlines.

Create a basic assessment tool (or find one that already exists) to track your progress.

Now that you have a basic “Recipe for Healing from Trauma”, it’s time to take action.

Individualize your process, make it applicable to your situation, and most of all…get started

today!

Today’s discussion questions:

  1. What barrier(s) are getting in the way of your healing from trauma?
  2. What practical step can you take today to overcome your barrier(s) today?

Please post your responses in the below comments section. I look forward to connecting with you!
